LEONARD PAUL MAYDANIUK
In grief and sorrow, we are saddened to announce the passing of Leonard Paul Maydaniuk. Leonard was born on January 28, 1939, in Oakburn Manitoba to his loving parents, Stanley and Mary Maydaniuk. Leonard lived a full life of kindness, selflessness and embodying the Catholic faith that he held near and dear.
Leonard was a loving husband, father, and cherished friend. He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. Leonard was predeceased by his loving wife Mary Maydaniuk (nee Kseniuk) who tragically passed in July 2011. Mary and Leonard shared a special love and devotion to one another, and was a love that Leonard carried with him every day following her passing.
Leonard leaves behind his daughter Gloria with whom he shared a special father\daughter bond, son Mark and his wife Fatima (whom after 28 years with Mark also passed away on February 22, 2026 after a long and heroic battle with Cancer). Also, while life and circumstances made it difficult to connect as often as Leonard would have liked, he is predeceased by his siblings, sisters, Nadia Sawchuk (Neepawa) and Sylvia Obedniak (Russell), as well as his brother Stephen Maydaniuk (Winnipeg). Leonard also carried a special place in his heart for numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. We would also like to mention the Sytnyk family, and especially Alex and Patricia Sytnyk with whom he shared a special bond.
Leonard split his time between Winnipeg and Calgary where his children call home, and after his wife’s passing, spent much of his time in Alberta, living in Edmonton at the time of his passing. He was always the father and a teacher, spending much of his working career as a teacher and counselor, starting off in rural schools, then moving on to Ontario for a brief period, before settling into his longest tenure acting as a counselor for Indigenous Affairs. Finally, Leonard initially retired from teaching at a Hutterite Colony in Manitoba, before returning to work at the Winnipeg Concert Hall as the final stop in his career.
Enjoying a long retirement, Leonard always put others before himself, and focused his time on supporting his family, church and friends, always being there for those he loved and never asking for recognition for his wonderful deeds. Leonard was the type of man who would lead with love and lived selflessly. He loved his tomato plants and gardening in general and will leave his family with memories of listening to Johnny Cash on the record player and enjoying a coffee after a morning of shopping (a bit of an inside joke). More than anything, Leonard was a loving father and husband without equal and cherished the time he spent with his family while always knowing he will be reunited with his soulmate Mary for eternity.
Leonard will be loved and remembered for his kindness and good deeds and will always be held closely in our hearts. While life is short and precious, Leonard understood what truly mattered in life and set the example for his family and friends that what truly mattered in life was not the car you drive or clothes you wear, but the love in your heart, faith in God and the compassion you bestow on the world.
We would like to invite you to his funeral service May 7, 2026, at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Cathedral (Ukrainian Catholic Church) located at 115 McGregor Street, Winnipeg, MB at 10:30 a.m., followed by entombment in his mausoleum shared with Mary at All Saints Cemetery immediately following.

I knew Mr. Maydaniuk as a concerned parent whom I met often at parent teacher meetings, who together with his wife raised two fine children. I extend my sincere sympathies to Gloria and Mark. I know he was very proud of you both and that he will be sorely missed by you. - Posted by: Wayne Selby (Acquaintance) on: May 05, 2026

I knew Leonard in Thompson in the 70s. He was one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. RIP Leonard. - Posted by: Patricia Anne Isherwood (Friend) on: May 05, 2026
